My Introduction to Astrology

Hi!  I am Janeen Daniell Cain.  I was born April 2nd, 1978 in Red Bluff, CA at 6:52am PST.  I would describe myself as an autodidact, philosopher, syncretist, occultist, metaphysician, humanitarian, spiritualist, and astrologer.  I have been practicing astrology since 2015.  I have been a long time practitioner of psychology since 2003, having my first encounter with the subject academically in 1998.  My interest in psychology formed because of the multidisciplinary nature of it which includes philosophy, mythology, history, and mathematics.  This later would form my deep appreciation for astrology as it is integrally multidisciplinary and is the bedrock of many disciplines including mythology and psychology.

In February of 2011 I synchronistically met my astrology mentor Kelly Lee Phipps. Unbelievably, in 2010 he had finished a 3,000-mile bike journey with his son Arian (14 at the time) that began in June from Boulder, Colorado and ended in late October in Chico, California. When I say bike, not a motorcycle, I mean a bicycle!  I myself had just moved to Chico in August of 2010.  I didn’t know anyone in the small city, but I was inwardly urged by strong intuition that I would meet someone of great importance.  I did, the most influential person in my life, my teacher of the great science of astrology.

We met on a rainy late evening in a bustling coffee shop where he often worked on his magnum opus, Tao of Astrology.  I arrived there that evening to work on my graduate studies.  The entire direction of my life was about to shift!  I was having my nodal square transit and Venus was in a strong square to Uranus (the ruler of Astrology)!  He was sitting at the center of a humongous wooden table surrounded by other coffeeshop goers, his son, and a friend.  We would later fondly and aptly call this table, the King’s Table.  There were no available spots to sit except across from him.  So I sat.  We immediately hit it off with a philosophical conversation.  I discovered he was a professional astrologer.  After providing him my statistics upon his request, he pulled up my chart.  He observed pensively.  After a long wait, he looked up at me and smiled, “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”

He had returned to Boulder a month later.  We remained in consistent correspondence for months until I joined him in August of 2012 to continue my mentorship at the Boulder Astrology Guild.  After his untimely passing on March 25, 2014, I have since dedicated my life to the practice of astrology in honor of my mentor and soul brother.

My Area of Interest

My main focus is on the interrelation of Jungian Analytical Psychology and astrology.  I would like to expand on the discipline of psychological astrology which was established in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.  Currently, I am investigating the incredible overlap of the ancient astrological symbolism of the planets and the structure and function of consciousness as proposed by Carl Jung.  What I am discovering is fantastic!  Video courses will be posted soon on my youtube channel, linking the videos on this website.

I believe the treasure trove of archetypal motifs and cosmogenic derivatives, abundant as the language of astrology, is the foundation of mythology.  Further, the study of astrology is the study of the nature and function of consciousness, how consciousness relates and interacts with the periodicities in nature, projecting primordial contents from the unconscious onto the heavens thus forming the foundations of cosmogony, mythology, and archetypes.  It is from that point of view that I aim my research of astrology.  Further, evaluating the birthchart from this perspective whilst integrating Analytical Psychology, benefits interpretation.  This is because it expands the archetypal definitions and supports psychological growth through the process of individuation.

I enjoy syncretizing my research with several other disciplines including spiritualism, numerology, astrotheology, mathematics, philosophy, and theoretical physics.  As such, my blog and video courses include the interlacing of multiple disciplines and subjects with my main interest in astrology.  My thinking is greatly influenced by the polymathic nature of Kelly’s theories on astrology where he synthesized astrophysics, Jungian psychology, spirituality, symbolic languages, history, western and eastern philosophy, and mythology.

Thank you so much for visiting.  I hope that you enjoy the information and that it helps you in your knowledge acquisition and self-development.

Blessings and love.
